Car magazines are more than just entertainment -- they're the lifeblood of the gearhead hobby. Without them, we wouldn't have a very good idea of what's going on either in the dealerships or in the hot rodding garages.

Problem is, once an issue hits the streets, that's it. If you accidentally chuck a treasured magazine, that invaluable article on performance-jetting carburetors is gone. Or that inspirational feature on a car so similar to yours will live only in memory.

Also, older car magazines are helpful guides to buying used cars. How were they viewed by their contemporaries? The articles from when the car was new are far more revealing than a bunch of dots and circles next to trouble areas.

Whether your need for old magazines is for technical advice, inspiration, or research, we've got you covered. We have thousands of magazines in stock, ready to go. And you don't need to magically know which issue you want -- we're building a colossal index of these periodicals. You can look up what you need and identify the exact issues you want.

Browse through the webpages using the nav bar at left, or try out our search engine to find answers fast.

What magazines do you guys carry anyway?
More than we know. Seriously, we're still trying to sort through them all. We have indexed over 4,300 magazines, and there are thousands more on our shelves. In addition to our regular offerings, we also have American Rodder, Camaro World, Car Exchange, Chevy High Performance, Classic Automobile Register, Excellence, Jaguar World, Jp, Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords, Musclecar Review, Petersen's Off-Road, Porsche Panorama, Skinned Knuckles, Smoke Signals, Street Rodder, Super Chevy, Vette Vues, and Super Street. There's even more than that but we really DON'T know what's in all the boxes yet.

Can I influence what order you index that pile?
Yes. Tell us what you're after and we'll go after it for you.

How can I be absolutely sure an article is what I am looking for?
There's no way to be absolutely 100% sure. But if you write us, telling us which issue and article you're interested in, we'll give you a general overview of the article plus length in pages and amount of color. If it's a car feature we'll let you know whether it's stock, modified, restored, or whatever. If it's a product review we'll let you know the exact name of the product and the car used for testing.

How can I find what I want?
Be aware of what you're looking at. If you're trying to restore a 1932 Ford, you're not going to find the '32 Fords featured in Hot Rod very hepful -- they're hot rods. We recommend you ask us to give you an overview of the article if you have a specific need in mind. Also, if you are not comfortable trusting our online search engine, write to us with your needs and we'll do a search for you, and provide a report of results, at no charge. If we don't find what you want you can sign up for the Courtesy List.

What kind of condition are the magazines in?
They're in usable condition. Some are mint but the majority of them show a little bit of age (mailing labels, loose covers, or bent pages). This is fairly normal; magazines aren't printed for posterity. If the magazine you want is glaringly defective (detached, torn, or missing cover; water damage; evidence of missing pages) we will describe the defect to you and offer you a discount. If you will accept nothing less than a newsstand-mint copy, please tell us!

Do you buy magazines?
Yes, if they cover years and titles that we need. However, shipping magazines is quite expensive, so we can seldom offer generous sums for them. But even what we can pay for them is more than you'll get from throwing them out, so if you have a collection, contact us and we'll talk about it.

I want to know when you get something in; will you tell me?
We've tried to do this in the past, but it just never seems to work very well. The solution we currently have is the Courtesy List. Each month we'll mail a short notice summarizing recently indexed magazines and recent purchases, so you'll always know what the latest availability is. You only get one e-mail a month and you can subscribe or unsubscribe yourself -- it's completely in your control. Use the form to the right if you'd like to give it a try.
