At first we were flattered by the notion that other people wanted us to post their links. It meant they really liked us and respected our website, and were hoping they too were worthy for inclusion.
Horse hockey.
It means they want free advertising and they think we'll fall for it if they beg enough or offer some sort of graft. Sadly, we're stupid and fall for it almost every time. Here then are some people who write to us, fishing for a link or trying to sell us something. They asked for it; here it is.
If you'd like to make a Cave Drawing of your own, please report to the Main Cave.

Dear Sir or Madam:
We take the liberty to write to you and will appreciate your attention on this mail.
We have a foundry engaging in brake rotor casting. We have been in this field for
years and have gained the fame for our products step by step.
With the CNC lathe from Japan, we are able to keep the run out below 0.04mm and the
surface roughness to be 1.6.
Now we export about 50 containers of brake rotor and other casting parts annually to
the US market,
but our ability is not fully used and we are now seeking for new buyers.
Quotation by drawings or samples will be ok and we will quote in 3days after
reception of your inquiry.

Dear sir or madam,
I should like to draw your attention to a new site that might be of some interest to
visitors of neptune.spacebars.com.
"Majstro" (www.majstro.com) is a multilingual translation dictionary with a
vocabulary database that is based on more recent versions of the Ergane wordlists
that are currently used by Travlang. Since your site has a link to the Travlang
dictionaries I should like to propose that you add a link to Majstro as well. Not
only are several of the wordlists (including the one for English) significantly
larger than those used by Travlang, the Majstro dictionary also supports more
languages and has several useful features, such as:
- Virtual keyboards for entering characters that are not easily typed with a national
keyboard (including Greek and Cyrillic letters).
- The possibility to use SQL wildcards for searching words that match a specific
pattern.
- Recognition of alternative spellings (e.g. color/colour) and frequently used
mis-spellings (e.g. recieve/receive).
Yours sincerely,
Gerard van Wilgen (author of the Ergane dictionary application)
Gerard, once again, post a reciprocal link and we'll put you front and center.

A request to evaluate our search engine to see if you find it worthy of reviewing, or
adding to your existing links to search engines, was sent to contacts on your website
last week by mistake. A software bug in our system sent the email out to the wrong
contact list you are a part of, which had not yet been personally verified by me.
The original email was intended for colleges and other .edu websites we had
previously researched. As a result multiple contacts on your site may have been
contacted prematurely before you were evaluated.
We have since taken the time to look at your site and found a link to another
meta-search engine at:

Our search engine is of a similar class. It supports UK, US, Canada, and French
regional searches, multiple languages, mailing and saving of results directly from

system, powered by moreover.com, which delivers news from over 1,000 sources grouped
into over 300 categories. All features are free, just enter your search in the box
at the top of the page. Only advanced functions like news subscriptions require
registration.
You can view the engine at:

There's an awful lot of discussion boards out there. I can't possibly link to them all. Yours
doesn't seem to have caught the imagination of the public just yet, so there's little to offer my
viewers. Let me know when you start getting some hits.
From Anita Rodriguez on 31 August 2000:
My name is Anita Rodriguez and I am a Category Manager for Ixposure.
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about a fantastic promotion
that is going on at www.thepid.com.
The pid or personal interactive desktop is the best way to brand the
computer desktop with your logo. The pid is your computer desktop of 4-7
images of your product or industry images. The images rotate to maintain
user interest. The pid provides a direct link to your website, thus increasing
traffic while providing features that quickly access the internet as well as
calendar and address book.
We are currently working on a promotion from now through September 15,
2000. Our goal is to form strategic alliances while completing the population
of www.thepid.com with a large variety of branded pids. We are willing to
get you on board at no cost! Please go over to www.thepid.com and check
out the website.
If you would like to be part of this fantastic promotional opportunity, feel
free to contact me by e mail arodriguez@thepid.com or by phone 949 417

Hello Anita, you're polite enough so I won't rip into you too much. I'm just wondering
though, what exactly do you think I sell here on Neptune? This site is NON-PROFIT; you won't
find anything for sale (except for a few links to Amazon.com). There's nothing for me to
advertise
and if you'd spent a few minutes surfing the site you would have realized that. No one likes
advertisements, so, since I have nothing to sell, why would I want to add to the problem? I'm sure
you meant well but maybe you should get to know your potential clients a little better before
spamming them.

1. Even car spam sucks. 2. Just so you know, not everyone is using rich text. The internet standard is still plaintext. Your link didn't work, even on the extremely unlikely chance that I would ever bother to visit your spam-snorting site.

An interesting approach. However, you've neglected to provide a few crucial pieces of
information, such as why your pads are better than the ones I can get locally; what types of use
your pads are intended for; and of course the biggie, what models you cover. Without that
information (which does not seem to appear on your website), it's hard to evaluate your
product.

Hi Peter, the first we can't list because it seems to be just a Jaguar dealer's listings with a few
other links. If I were to list every dealer's website, I'd need a whole separate page. The other
looks as though it is still under development but we'll add it anyway. It'll be cool if you get it
going.

From Ed Grenda on 9 March 2000:
Dear Sirs:
This is to let you know that we have greatly expanded our AUTOMOTIVE
THRIFT web site and it includes one - or more - links to your page.
This site has been designed to give people the minimum tools needed to
get the maximum value out of their vehicles using a little humor and
avoiding technical jargon.
Our **NEW TITLE** for this site reflects its greater scope, but our home
page URL remains the same.
They are as follows:
TITLE: Dr. Dipstik's Temple of Thrifty Motoring
URL: http://home.att.net/~drdipstik/
The site also includes the AUTOMOTIVE DIRECTORY, a unique collection of
evaluated listings for:
Thrifty Living
Female Oriented Automotive Sites
How Cars Work
Automotive Repair and Maintenance Sites
Major Automotive Sites
Automotive Books and Periodicals
Vehicle Management Software Sites
We kindly ask that you link to us from your site when next you update
your web page. If we are already linked, please update the link to
reflect our greater coverage and new title.
We hope that you will visit Dr. Dipstik's Temple of Thrifty Motoring and
find it useful. We also would appreciate hearing any comments or
suggestions you might have. Thanks in advance for your kind attention
and we send best regards.
Ed, your site is, well, interesting. But you have a lot of very good basic information; we
especially like the part encouraging people to fix what they have rather than waste money on new
iron. And we also like the nice things you said about us. So what the heck. You get a link.
From Shane Bell on 3 February 2000:
I noticed that you are involved with firewalls. Vicomsoft have an informative
document about firewalls which is interesting to both novice and advanced users at:
http://www.vicomsoft.com/knowledge/reference/firewalls1.html
This document should be of help to those who use or plan to use a firewall to protect
their LAN from hostile attacks from the Internet. It should also be of interest to
those wishing to acquire a better understanding of firewalls in general. I just
thought you might like to put a link to it from your site. The document is neutral
from the point of view of vendors or service providers, but it does answer a lot of
questions frequently asked by users involved with firewalls.
Best regards...
Well Shane you're a regular Sherlock Holmes aren't you? You're wrapped up in your little
cyberworld, sheltered from the crazy outsiders who don't know what the Geek Code is but DO
know that you fit nicely in a locker. Your spider is so snazzy it zips along collecting the e-mail
addresses of everyone who has a webpage about firewalls so you can write to them about your
pretty website. Well guess what Holmes -- the page you so diligently wrote to was discussing rewiring a fan relay on a Mustang and the firewall your
spider latched onto was the one separating your dumb self from your car's engine!
Gee-golly-gosh-darn doesn't anyone READ anymore?!
From John Foley on 28 January 2000:

Doggone it! You've already got a link! You've already written in! I already have the T-shirt!
And it's all a big sham! A big form-mail capaign to spread your link far and wide. You don't
really think my page is nice work. You've probably never even seen it! Oh my idealistic dreams

From John Foley on 28 January 2000:
Dear Brian,
I was surfing the net and found your site. Nice work!
I would like to make you aware of a great new resource that helps
job candidates locate employers and lifestyle resources in your area.
http://www.NorthBayCareers.com.
Unlike other job sites, we provide free direct links to the jobs pages
of all local major employers.
That way, job candidates are free to explore all the companies and
all the jobs -- not just those who have paid to be listed.
We also provide an extensive list of local lifestyles and relocation
information as a one stop shop for working and living locally.
We would be very pleased if you would link to us from your site.
We will even send you a FREE T-SHIRT! (We value the important
work you do maintaining your web site) Just send me a return email
when the link is up, along with the address to send it, and it's yours.
Again, the URL to link to is http://www.NorthBayCareers.com.
Thanks!
and best regards
Well gee whiz I sure do like getting free T-shirts. Lemme go add your site-- waaaait a minute,
what's this?!.... [see above]
From Maria Cerna on 23 January 2000:
Hello,
We have a site addressing job seekers' employment references from former
employers, i.e. we confidentially contact former employers and obtain their
references to ensure the job seeker what exactly is being given to others
as a reference.
Since we are also revising our site to update "helpful job links", we wish
to add your site to our listing and would (really, really) appreciate your
comments, review, and possibly consideration of our site on yours, (perhaps
under a Career Resources and/or Services heading?).
Please visit our site, http://www.jobreference.com, and tell us what you think.
I gotta admit, I like your service in a sneaky backhanded sort of way. But alas, you charge for
it, and we only like to link to free sites and services on Hallelujah I'm A
Bum. It's that whole freedom of information thing. We could have a friend pose as an
employer and check the references with much the same result. But I posted your link here, in case
someone else sees it differently and would like your service.

From Kazuhiko Watanabe on 24 November 1999:
Dear Sir,
Hello.
I am a Japanese and living in Japan.
However, in a shopping mall, there many many American products and
we have brought a lot of these things, and so in the future.
So we have very interest in these and want these infomation.
One day, I found the very interesting article about oil additives for cars.
So it is Mr. Fred Rau's "Snake Oil! Is That Additive Really a Negative?"
(I found it on the other site.)
In japan some people says, directly or on net, that these additives are
unreliable or are fake.
But these are unfortunately not at all persuasive because of amateur's
opinion, and to tell the truth, I had been favarite with additives and used
QMI's product and felt so good....
However, the article is very persuasive. Also whole of your web pages are
very exciting!
Then, personally I can't do anyhow, I'd like to translate your web pages
into japanese and open to the public on my web page, and link to your pages,
including QMI's counterpoint.
Would you allow me?
Already I contacted Mr. Fred Rau and he allowed me.
I'd like to contact to Mr. Heatwole(QMI) also.
By the way, I already tranrated and open the article about Slick 50 and
Splitfire, permitted by FTC.
I hope for a good news.
Here it is, proof that we gave Kazuhiko permission to translate our webpages into Japanese.
So instead of sending me e-mail about how my stuff is getting ripped off, because it's not, just go
visit his Frequently Asked
Questions. It helps if your browser can read Japanese text. If anyone else wants to translate
my webpages into another language, drop me a line.

A common question. Lots of companies would like to be listed on Hallelujah I'm A Bum. Here's the steps you need to take: 1) ask. 2)
include your URL. 3) offer a bribe. Well, okay, you don't REALLY need to offer a bribe, but it'd
provide incentive for me to get around to your request sooner.

I came across your Spacebears site while searching for job related sites.
You've done a great job constructing this site - I'm very impressed at the
amount of information that you cover and links you provide on your site. I am
looking for places to link to put a link to a free job search and employment
information resource. Jobs & Adverts site specializes in international and high
tech jobs with over 80% of the jobs listed on the site are in the IT field and
almost 18,000 of the listed jobs are for international positions. The Jobs &
Adverts site allows visitors to search for jobs, learn job hunting techniques,
sign-up for email notification when jobs are posted matching their search
profile, post resumes for potential employers to see, find intern and entry
level positions. There's something for everyone at Jobs & Adverts. The site
offers position openings in numerous fields--IT/telecommunication,
technical/engineering, marketing, health care, sales, creative, finance, and
many more.
[self-serving links deleted]
Please take a moment to stop by the Jobs & Adverts site. It is packed with open
positions waiting to be filled, as well as other job hunting information and
resources. I thought your readers would like to know about this and thought it
could be easily added to your list of National Career Banks on the "Hallelujah,
I'm a Bum" page. I've included some HTML at the bottom of this letter if you
would like to use it to put the link on your site.
Thanks for your time and please feel free to contact me with any questions you
have about the Jobs & Adverts site.
Man! I can see linking job-related websites is like feeding squirrels: once you start, they never
leave you alone! No I would not like to use your HTML; I'll write my own opinion of your site
thankyouverymuch. How much is your link worth to you? I already have a free T-shirt... I could
use a nice coffe mug to go with it, or a mousepad.

We also provide an extensive list of local lifestyles and relocation
information as a one stop shop for working and living locally.
We would be very pleased if you would link to our sites from your site.
We will even send you a free t-shirt! (We value the important
work you do maintaining your web site) Just send me a return email
when the links are up, along with the address to send it, and it's yours.
Flattery will get you nowh... free t-shirt? I suppose there's always room for an addendum to
your site description on Hallelujah I'm A Bum. XL please; I'm
going
for that baggy look so popular with the kids this year. Except for the exposed underwear part.
From Rudy Lacovara on 24 June 1999:
First we would like to thank everybody who has contributed to making
http://www.justnotesjobs.com the largest Lotus Notes jobsite on the Internet.
JustNotesJobs currently has over 600 job postings and more than 400 resumes for
Notes professionals. We've heard your requests for additional functionality and we've
just rolled out a new site design with a more user-friendly interface and expanded
support for resume searches.
We're also extending the Free Test Drive until 9-1-99, so drop by to check out the
new look and get your free postings in while you can. Also, check out our site list at
http://www.justcomputerjobs.com/Employer.nsf/SiteList for a schedule of more up
and coming technology specific jobsites.
Hello Rudy. A computer wiz named Rudy. I suspect you've seen the inside of a locker or two,
eh? Look here spamboy, if you'd bothered to check out the webpages grabbed by your spider,
you would have noticed that the Lotus Link-A-Rama is dedicated
to Lotus Cars, not Lotus Notes. Oh by the way, 'functionality' is a stupid word; always has been,
always will be. Go to a bookstore (book: old-fashioned means of displaying text on paper in a
convenient, portable package) and get yourself a nice big thesaurus. Thank you.

Okay, you don't go out on a limb and say so, but I'm guessing you're fishing for a link from
the Import/Export section of Technical Paradise. Lucky for you,
I'm a sucker for personal attention. You got it.
From Oliver Marks on 12 Feb 1999:
Hi - I'm just updating the links on my site and will be adding one to
Paradise garage today - I'd really appreciate one to my site in your
Jaguar link-a-rama!
I'm a jag xj6 sIII owner and lover who made the 'Classic Jaguars
Interactive' cd and is currently working on other titles...
Hi Oliver, that's a great CD you put together! We've had a link to RPM Interactive in Technical Paradise for a long time. Check under "CD-ROMs." But
you're right, that CD does deserve a link in the Jaguar
Link-A-Rama so we'll add one. Thanks!
